Ghana suffer 3-0 defeat to Algeria after unimpressive showing

hana has been defeated 3-0 by Algeria in a friendly encounter in Qatar as part of preparations for the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Nicknamed the Black Stars, the national team of the West African country has been in Doha where they have pitched camp to prepare for the upcoming continental showpiece.

Today at the Education City Sports Stadium, Coach Milovan Rajevac had the chance to assess the strength of his squad when Ghana faced off with African champions Algeria.

In a game that could possibly be the only friendly the Black Stars play before the start of the AFCON, it was a poor showing from the Ghana players with all two goalkeepers that featured, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen and Lawrence Ati-Zigi failing to impress.

An own goal from defender Jonathan Mensah plus goals from Adam Ounas and Islam Slimani in the end powered Algeria to cruise to a deserved 3-0 win after 90 minutes.

The Black Stars have just a few days to put things in order before travelling to Cameroon on Friday, January 7, 2022, to gear up for the official start of the AFCON on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
