Gabby Otchere- E-levy And Petroleum Taxes Are Tough On Ghanaians, But We Have Little Choices Left
A leading member of the ruling NPP, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has asserted that E-Levy and petroleum taxes are tough on Ghanaians but there were no choices left if the government is to continue paying workers and initiate developmental projects.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, the lawyer and communications strategist, Gabby Otchere-Darko wrote;
“This was the reality last year: payments to public workers, interest payments on public loans, and statutory funds alone totalled 144% of all taxes collected. It is even worse this year, where for March taxes collected could only service loans.
E-levy and petroleum taxes are tough on all Ghanaians, if the truth be told. But we have very little choices left if we are to pay our bills, pay workers and invest in our development. Even as we pay let us not just demand accountability but full and transparent disclosure as well on how are taxes are being managed.”
His comments comes as a background to Akufo-Addo’s statement made during the celebration of the May day.
Gabby posted the picture above to back his comments. The E-Levy implentation begun yesterday 1st May 2022. Many Ghanaians have shared their views and the experience they have been through with the it’s implementation.
